These patients had earlier received a competitive off-the-shelf (OTS) implant in their other knee.

The findings demonstrated that 72.3% of patients preferred their fully personalised Conformis knee replacement, while 6.4% of them preferred their traditional OTS implant.

Meanwhile, the remaining 21.3% of patients reported no perceived difference between the two implants.

Using the fully personalised Conformis knee implant, the patients in the study reported better-perceived mobility, less pain and a more ‘normal’ feeling.

Additionally, the study highlighted low pain levels and joint awareness, as well as high levels of satisfaction in regards to using the fully personalised implants.

Conformis CEO and president Mark Augusti said: “This study confirms what the surgeons and engineers working at Conformis have known from the beginning: a fully personalised knee replacement that is designed specifically for each patient’s unique anatomy and original motion clearly contributes to better clinical outcomes and happier patients.

“Our fully personalised knee system has demonstrated its clinical benefits in dozens of peer-reviewed studies over the years, and this patient self-controlled research further validates that the patients who are living with two different knee implants can feel the difference.”

In the study, the patients were assessed using the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, Joint Replacement (KOOS, JR) and Forgotten Joint Score (FJS), as well as preference questionnaire methodologies.
