GE HealthCare and the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) have announced a Care Alliance, an initiative to advance healthcare capabilities across URMC’s sites in upstate New York.
Building on the organisations’ existing relationship, the latest collaboration will span seven years. Key focal areas include efforts to decrease burdens on URMC’s IT infrastructure, biomed, and clinicians.

Equipment throughout the health system will be standardised as part of this aim, ensuring patients have timely access to care provisions as required.
A key pillar of the collaboration is the advancement of URMC’s centre of excellence strategy. Set within URMC’s Imaging Sciences department, the strategy aims to advance diagnostic imaging provisions at URMC by upgrading existing MRI systems and delivering new ones that include AI-based applications to reduce imaging noise and scan times.
GE HealthCare’s Aurora, a dual-energy CT capable of single heartbeat cardiac scans will be installed at URMC as part of the strategy, with the organisation’s overall agreement structured so that technologies can be upgraded as new innovations become available. According to the organisations, this aspect of the agreement will minimise the need for new construction, reduce downtime, and support a higher level of environmental responsibility.
To advance URMC’s radiopharmaceutical and theragnostics programme, the institution will obtain a cyclotron so radioisotopes for advanced imaging techniques such as PET scans can be developed in-house. The addition is expected to help advance individualised treatment planning, care, and monitoring with URMC’s existing imaging tools such as GE HealthCare’s Omni Legend PET/CT and Aurora platforms.

By GlobalDataFinally, the Care Alliance will fully standardise patient monitoring protocols across URMC’s bedside monitors, telemetry, central monitoring, and networking and connectivity solutions with GE HealthCare’s Carescape monitoring portfolio.
URMC’s anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine chair Michael Scott commented: “Our goal is to create a standardised monitoring platform that includes the right monitor for right patient at the right time.
“We aim to optimise monitoring systems, alarm systems, and data display, while at the same time, introducing wearable technology whenever possible during recovery.”
GE HealthCare’s market vice president Shane Penzone highlighted that URMC’s commitment to continuous improvement and access to advanced technology has facilitated a “meaningful collaboration” the imaging giant believes will have a positive impact on patient care.
Penzone continued: “We are excited to work with URMC to enable the future of healthcare through our Care Alliance, combining advancements in AI technology, precision care, innovative care pathways, data, and insights to deliver efficient care in the communities where their patients live.”
The alliance follows a 14-year partnership GE HealthCare signed with UC San Diego Health (UCSD) in October 2025.
