Brainlab has equipped the Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, US, with its 625th ExacTrac X-Ray system.

The system has been developed to solve the complexities associated with intra-fractional patient motion by internally verifying the patient’s position with stereoscopic X-Ray at the time of treatment.

ExacTrac X-Ray will be mostly useful for cranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and spinal stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) treatments.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center radiation oncologist Josh Yamada said: "ExacTrac X-Ray monitoring defines the standard in intra-fractional motion management.

"We can set up our patients using cone-beam CT or ExacTrac X-Ray, depending upon the patient’s needs.

The system allows the continuous verification of the patient’s position at any point during treatment, based on internal anatomy and regardless of technique or couch position.

Brainlab president and CEO Stefan Vilsmeier said: "With the increasing clinical adoption of frameless cranial and single fraction spinal radiosurgery treatments, the demand for ExacTrac X-Ray monitoring only increases, as witnessed by the 625th installation at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.

According to the company, the system provides flexibility to install on any linear accelerator system complementing the LINAC with the ability to detect intra-fractional motion based on the patient’s internal anatomy.
