US-based medical device company Medrobotics has reported positive clinical data of its Flex Robotic System in providing an enhanced surgical performance.

The Flex Robotic System involves a minimally invasive procedure offering surgeons access to difficult anatomical locations.

A prospective, single-arm, open-label, post-market, clinical follow-up study, which involved 80 patients, was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Flex Robotic System while treating benign and malignant lesions in the throat.

University Hospital Essen department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery professor of medicine Stephan Lang said: “My colleagues and I performed the world’s first robotic-assisted cancer procedures with the Medrobotics Flex Robotic System two years ago.

“The technology has continually improved since then, allowing us better access to challenging surgical sites.

The Flex Robotic System features a highly articulated multi-linked scope which can make its way through non-linear, circuitous paths.

Structurally the scope has numerous linkages with concentric mechanisms which facilitates the maneuverability of the mechanism.

The device offers a single access site and after being positioned the scope forms a stable passage through which the surgeons can direct flexible surgical instruments.

Flex Robotic System also features an on-board HD visualisation to offer a clear view of the navigation path and the targeted surgical site to the surgeons.

The device is affordable and is easy to use which makes it increasingly accessible to treat a wide range of patients.

Its minimally invasive procedure also results to reduced hospital stays and a faster recovery.
