Medical technology company Pentax Medical has unveiled its Scopepilot navigation control unit to provide 3D representation of an endoscope’s position inside a patient’s bowel tract.

Developed in collaboration with clinicians at the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Scopepilot generates a 3D presentation of a colonoscope’s movement.

Scopepilot facilitates accurate insertion tracking and effective colonic loop management while ensuring patient comfort.

The system consists of advanced orientation features such as image rotation on both horizontal and vertical axis for a better depiction of the movement of the insertion tube, the zoom function also provides improved evaluation and detection of looping.

The 3D image is generated by the endoscope’s embedded multidimensional sensors which are created by a magnetic field generated outside of the patient.

The integration of the sensors into the colonoscope frees the scope’s working channel for advanced therapeutic procedures.

It can be activated through the operation panel or remote control when at anytime during the procedure.

These sensors convey data to a control unit where it is processed and displayed in real-time during a procedure, enabling dynamic tracking and handling control of the endoscope.

The images can be accessed at the touch of a button and downloaded to a storage device through the USB port in the front panel.
