
UK-based testing and expert providers Smithers has opened a new facility in Shawbury that will be dedicated to medical device testing services.
The newly built facility is equipped with capabilities to accommodate high-volume routine medical device tests ranging from product development to post-market surveillance.

The facility will also meet compliance requirements of the European legislation for drug delivery devices.
Smithers Rapra and Smithers Pira Europe vice-president and general manager Sam Sheppard Fidler said: “The new laboratory is our latest investment in support of client demand in the medical device space.
“The expansion affords more capacity for high-volume testing, enabling us the potential to triple the number of tests we can perform.”
The types of testing that will be conducted at the new testing facility are leakage, ease of assembly, actuation assessment, and simulated use and ease-of-use. In addition, the facility will cover accuracy, tamper-evidence assessment, verifications of product claims; visual inspections; dimensions and connection compatibility.
