The NKV-550 offers a smooth transition between invasive ventilation, noninvasive ventilation and high-flow oxygen therapy. The seamless transition enables a clinician to respond to a patient’s respiratory support requirements without having to change devices.

Nihon Kohden president and CEO Yasuhiro Yoshitake said: “Every product we bring to market is designed to simplify workflow for clinicians and benefit patients. We saw a tremendous need in the respiratory market for a comprehensive ventilator that could respond to any patient situation while also providing excellent usability using modern technology.”

The ventilator system offers Protective Control, a feature that utilises a second graphical user interface placed outside the isolation room of an infectious patient placed under mechanical ventilation.

Furthermore, the graphic user interface enables respiratory therapists and clinicians to view the ventilator monitors and alarms, adjust ventilation settings and alarm settings, as well as pause the alarm sound.

When treating an individual with an infectious disease, the feature aims to protect clinicians and patients, as respiratory therapists and clinicians can provide an immediate response to the needs of an infectious sufferer.

An estimated 42 healthcare workers per million employed die annually from infections acquired at hospitals.

The NKV-550 will feature the Gentle Lung suite of applications to provide clinically relevant, easy-to-use tools for an open-lung approach to ventilation.

The app-based design will help to streamline the workflow of clinicians, thereby providing an optimised care to ventilated patients.
