Omnivision has introduced the new OVMed OH0131 image signal processor (ISP) for reusable and disposable endoscopes linked to handheld tablet consoles or camera control units (CCUs).

The new ISP is suitable for all the company’s medical image sensors up to two-megapixel resolution, including the OCH2B, OCHSA, OCHFA, OCHTA and OVM6946 imagers.

It is also compatible with the company’s AntLinx CMOS chip-on-tip endoscopy imaging interface and MIPI interfaces.

The new processor also acts as a kernel board for integrating with any MIPI-input post-processing board via an SoC, FPGA or x86 platform to create custom CCUs or handheld tablet consoles.

The OH0131 kernel features advanced image pre-processing algorithms for brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, sharpness, white balance and gamma adjustment with advanced noise reduction.

A third-party partner will use an SoC or FPGA for performing post-processing, focusing on LED drivers, patient isolation, image mask/onscreen display, high dynamic range, image rotation, H.264 compression, a high-definition multimedia interface and Wi-Fi output.

The company is offering the miniature board in a small form factor of 63mm x 51mm.

Omnivision senior staff marketing manager Richard Yang said: “Our off-the-shelf OVMed OH0131 streamlines engineering for medical OEMs, enabling customers to get their products to market faster.

“The ability to purchase a medical-grade image sensor with wafer-level optics, cable and ISP from one vendor also simplifies the supply chain.”

In June 2023, Omnivision launched the new ultra-thin medical-grade cable module, OVMed OCHTA, for single-use endoscopes.
