Stratasys has signed an agreement to interface its Direct Manufacturing’s parts-on-demand service with Philips IntelliSpace Portal 10 to provide three-dimensional (3D) medical models for better training, research and surgical planning.

Under the partnership, Philips clinical informatics and data management customers will be able to quickly design, order and produce 3D-printed anatomical structures on-demand.

The realistic, PolyJet-based full-colour, multi-material 3D printing models are intended to allow innovation and evolution of healthcare strategies for medical professionals.

Stratasys Direct Manufacturing additive manufacturing vice-president Greg Reynolds said: “Our interfacing with Philips IntelliSpace Portal 10 is designed to make it faster for doctors and their patients to receive customised, pre-surgical models.”

Printed in full colour from various textures such as hard bone and soft tissue, the anatomical structures are said to be created directly from patient scans.

Every prototype is designed to aid and accelerate surgical techniques, along with training and testing in zero-risk environments to establish approaches required for therapy.
