Innovia Medical has acquired Grace Medical and Hurricane Medical in the US, aimed at establishing a globally integrated platform of speciality surgical solutions.

Grace Medical has a portfolio of specialised ear, nose, and throat (ENT) products to Innovia, addressing complex surgical requirements.

Founded in 1995, the company began as a contract manufacturing company focusing on the production of titanium ventilation tubes.

Hurricane Medical was formed in 1999 and is supported by its manufacturing offerings, adding an array of ophthalmic solutions to Innovia.

It offers products directly to US customers and collaborates with ophthalmic distributors for sales outside the country.

Grace Medical's chief operating officer and president Michael Crook will helm the strategic direction of Innovia Medical's ENT division.

Grace Medical CEO Murray Beard said: “We look forward to expanding our ENT presence with Innovia Medical and continuing to service ENT customers around the world.”

Innovia noted that partners and customers can anticipate operational continuity, with existing sales and service contacts remaining unchanged.

The merging of these entities is anticipated to lead to expanded resources and a wider product portfolio.

Hurricane Medical president Dell Bauslaugh said: “We see a tremendous opportunity to grow Hurricane Medical’s product coverage through Innovia Medical’s commercial reach and global infrastructure. We are excited about what this means for our customers and our team.”

In February 2024, Innovia Medical announced the US availability of its DTR Medical Cervical Rotating Biopsy Punch in the US, a single-use gynaecology product first launched in the UK in 2012.

This instrument features a top jaw that is said to be stronger than titanium and aims to reduce patient discomfort and the need for repeat pathology tests with its 3.0mm × 7.5mm sample size.
