Cardiac Dimensions has treated the first patient in a clinical trial of its carillon mitral contour system, a novel therapy for treating heart failure patients suffering from functional mitral regurgitation.

The mitral contour system consists of a proprietary, implantable device with a percutaneous catheter delivery system.

The one-year, follow-up, prospective, single-arm Titan II clinical trial is intended to further evaluate an enhanced version of the carillon system as a treatment for heart failure.

The initial 53-patient Titan trial demonstrated relief from functional mitral regurgitation and improvements in functional capacity and quality of life compared to a contemporaneously-enrolled control group.
