Medical device company Paragon 28 has introduced its Gorilla supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO) plating and PRESERVE SMO allograft system.

The system was designed to enhance surgeons’ options for plate selection and surgical approach in SMO. It comprises drilling and cutting guides to enable controlled and repeatable medial opening, anterior dome and closing wedge osteotomies.

It also has an allograft cutting jig that helps in shaping the PRESERVE SMO allograft wedge to match the required correction while reducing procedure time and technicality.

The system consists of six plates for anterior or medial approaches. It also comprises multiple spanning distances to handle varying corrections.

Paragon 28 CEO Albert DaCosta said: “Hindfoot deformity correction and arthroplasty are two of the fastest growing segments in the foot and ankle market and the Gorilla SMO plating and allograft system offers surgeons a streamlined and reproducible means to achieve deformity correction while preserving the ankle joint.

“We are very excited to have a comprehensive system which will allow surgeons to address tibial deformities and stage for total ankle arthroplasty supporting our growing APEX total ankle arthroplasty system.”
