In the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, the knee reconstruction market brought in more than $400 million to the US. Zimmer Biomet currently holds the majority market share, with Stryker in second place, threatening to take over some of that share. Zimmer has been able to maintain the largest market share since 2015, despite having a higher average selling price than Stryker, according to leading data and analytics company GlobalData.
In Q2 2025, Stryker’s Triathlon total knee replacement system made more revenue than in any other quarter since 2014 – the earliest year tracked by GlobalData. In Q2, the Triathlon made up just over 21% of the total market share in Q2, and Zimmer’s Persona revision knee system just over 22%.
Over the next few quarters, Stryker may be able to take over first place in this market if the company can maintain strong sales.
Zimmer’s Persona and Stryker’s Triathlon are the two major products in the knee reconstruction market. Zimmer’s Persona has a higher average selling price than Stryker’s Triathlon. Despite Stryker having more competitive pricing, Zimmer has consistently remained at the top of the market.
Zimmer has more recently launched its Persona IQ. It is the first implant with smart capabilities, containing sensors that collect motion data. If the Persona IQ proves to be effective in accelerating healing, it could allow Zimmer to maintain the highest market share, keeping Stryker in second place.
