US-based medical technology company VB Spine has signed a definitive agreement with Augmedics to acquire the exclusive rights to the computed tomography-to-fluoroscopy (CT-Fluoro) technology for spine applications.

The agreement follows VB Spine’s earlier acquisition of the exclusive rights to the Augmedics xvision Spine System platform.

The CT-Fluoro technology enables surgeons to register a patient’s preoperative CT scan using standard fluoroscopic imaging.

This process could reduce reliance on intraoperative CT or 3D imaging systems during spinal procedures, potentially broadening workflow options and reducing imaging requirements.

VB Spine stated that the technology is intended to increase accessibility to augmented reality navigation for a wider variety of facilities and surgical settings.

VB Spine co-CEO Marc Viscogliosi said: “At VB Spine, our goal is to remove barriers that prevent surgeons from accessing technologies that improve procedural efficiency and patient care.

“The addition of CT-Fluoro technology for spine applications will be an important step forward for the xvision platform because it provides surgeons with greater flexibility in how they utilise navigation.”

VB Spine noted that following the completion of the transaction, it plans to make the CT-Fluoro technology available as part of its portfolio for spine-related procedures.

The agreement is subject to standard closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Specific financial details have not been disclosed.

Earlier this year, VB Spine agreed to acquire the SpineHawk intraoperative spinal visualisation platform from Robotron Surgical Technologies.

The acquisition aims to expand VB Spine’s portfolio with advanced intraoperative imaging solutions and a software roadmap focused on technology-enabled spine care.
