Senphonix has received the US National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I grant through America’s Seed Fund to support the advancement of its SleeveSense wearable vital signs monitoring platform.
The grant will assist the company and the University of Arizona in engineering efforts designed to strengthen the wireless and radio-frequency components of the patent-pending device.

The objective is to progress from current prototype status to a manufacturable product suitable for broad use.
SleeveSense is being developed as a wearable sleeve intended for continuous, automated monitoring of patients’ vital signs both during hospital stays and following discharge.
Senphonix aims for the device to provide multiple vital signs in real time, reducing the burden on clinical staff and offering sustained monitoring as patients transition to home care.
The company states that engineering work under the STTR Phase I award will focus on refining the device’s antenna and power systems and optimising its performance under typical hospital conditions, with projected manufacturing volumes in mind.
Prior to this federal funding, Senphonix received support from the State of Arizona, including a matching grant from the Arizona Commerce Authority via the WearTech Applied Research Center, which contributed to early design and prototype development.
Senphonix co-founder and co-CEO Mike Haldane said: “This award is significant validation of the critical needs SleeveSense will address.
“Continuous, comfortable, long-term monitoring can change how patient vitals are tracked both in the hospital and at home.”
Senphonix plans to begin clinical testing of SleeveSense in late 2026 or early 2027, with the US Food and Drug Administration submission anticipated in early to mid-2027.
It is not currently cleared or approved by the FDA.
