Since raising $24m in a Series A financing round in October 2025, Oath Surgical is in the process of scaling its network of outpatient surgical care centres across the US West Coast.
The Oregon-based company’s centres are ideated as a means to support a lower-cost, more streamlined approach to outpatient surgical care.
Upon completion of its Series A financing round, Oath’s CEO, Oliver Keown, highlighted that the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposed changes to the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs) rule for 2026 put surgery “at a turning point”.
The CMS’s regulation, which has since been finalised, outlined a 2.4% increase in Medicare and Medicaid payment rates for hospitals paid under the OPPS and to ASCs, indicating a push towards more outpatient care.
According to Oath, the shift means that 51 million procedures will move to outpatient care settings, thereby resulting in a rising demand across the US for surgery centres that can deliver complex care safely and at scale.
In this episode, Ross Law, editor for Medical Device Network, spoke with Keown and Dr Andrew Patel, head and neck surgeon at one of Oath’s outpatient surgical centres in Portland, Oregon, to learn more about the company’s service provision and ongoing aims to support improved patient outcomes.
