Medical device firm Taiwan Biophotonic (tBPC) has secured CE mark for its finger-free wrist pulse oximeter the oCare Pro 100, to measure heart rate and blood oxygen with medical grade accuracy.

Designed in the form of a smart watch for adults to check and / or record specific physiological parameters, the new device is claimed to enable non-invasive, simple and reliable measuring on the wrist while avoiding the wires and fingertip probe that clamps on the finger.

Ideal for use in hospitals, hospital-type facilities or a home environment, the oCare Pro 100 allows professional users to upload timely data measured during daily activities or sleeping, for physical or clinical evaluation.

The device features a DOE Lens Reflective PPG sensor (oCare sensor), which is placed on the bottom to make wrist skin as the application site.

The sensor has two or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) and one or more photodiode light detectors (PDs) located adjacently on a substrate.

"The oCare Pro 100 allows professional users to upload timely data measured during daily activities or sleeping, for physical or clinical evaluation."

The light beams shone from LEDs through the skin to the arteriolar bed of the tissue are absorbed in variable amounts during pulsations and the changes in these amounts are measured by the PDs as scattered light that is reflected back from the pulsating arteriolar bed.

The heart rate and functional oxygen saturation are measured as a translation of the ratio of light absorbed.

The device also comes with warning alarms that respond to abnormal conditions with lighting indicator and / or wrist vibration.
