Verily Life Sciences has commercially launched its Liftware Level to assist individuals with limited hand and arm mobility to hold a utensil at the angle required to feed themselves.

Liftware Level uses electronic motion-stabilising technology to hold the utensil level, regardless of the natural movement of the individual’s hands or arms.

The leveling handle is fitted with sensors which can detect changes from the intended movement of the hand in three dimensions.

In order to level the utensil, the computer directs two motors in the handle to bend the flexible gray joint, keeping the attachment at the right angle.

The device comes with a rechargeable battery where power can support one hour of continuous use on a single charge.

Verily technical lead and Liftware creator Anupam Pathak said: “One of the greatest pleasures in life is being able to enjoy a meal with friends and family an activity that some may take for granted.
