Nvidia has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) computing platform, Clara Holoscan MGX, for medical devices and computational sensing systems.

The new platform supports the development of medical devices from clinical trials to commercial deployment of real-time AI applications at the edge.

By expanding the Clara Holoscan platform, it provides medical-grade reference architecture and long-term software support to expedite medical device industry innovations.

Clara Holoscan MGX processes high-throughput data streams for real-time insights.  

It combines the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Industrial module, NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPU and NVIDIA ConnectX-7 SmartNIC network adapter into a scalable AI platform.

Nvidia healthcare vice-president Kimberly Powell said: “Deploying real-time AI in healthcare and life sciences is critical to enable the next frontiers in surgery, diagnostics and drug discovery.

Hardware reference design with long-life components and ten-year long-term software support are included as part of Clara Holoscan MGX.

The company also provides IEC62304 documentation for software and IEC60601 attestation reports from embedded computing partners.

Nvidia noted that Dedicated Computing, MBX Systems, Prodrive Technologies, ADLINK, Advantech, Kontron, Leadtek, Onyx Healthcare, Portwell, RYOYO Electro and Yuan High-Tech will be the first embedded-computing manufacturers to develop medical products based on the new platform reference design.

In 2019, the company collaborated with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to provide an open AI platform for diagnostic algorithms’ development.
