Using tele-mentoring technology, virtual support will be provided to surgical teams alongside comprehensive face-to-face training programmes.

Tele-mentoring systems make use of specialised cameras, monitors and sound systems that allow trainers and surgical instructors to provide real-time guidance as well as technical support to surgical teams during procedures.

This can provide expert clinical assistance for surgical teams as they master the Versius Surgical Robotic System.

Under the collaboration, CMR will use the Mini Tabletop device from Teladoc Health and the Connected Health intelligence Platform (CHiP) from SurgEase Innovation.

Initially, Teladoc Health’s Mini Tabletop device will be introduced at hospitals in India, South America, Europe and Australia.

CMR noted that the additional remote support to surgical teams is part of its comprehensive training programme.

CMR Surgical Professional Education global head Fiona Morrison said: “We want to make sure that our training technology matches up to our next-generation surgical robot Versius.

“That’s why we are delighted to partner with both Teladoc Health and SurgEase Innovations to utilise their latest platforms.

“These tele-mentoring devices will allow surgeons and their teams to access on-demand virtual support from our expert technical skills trainers and surgical preceptors as they progress through their learning curve.”

The Versius Surgical Robotic System has been designed to allow surgeons to perform more minimal access surgery (MAS).

The technology can fit into nearly any operating room set-up, where is integrates seamlessly into current workflows and increases the possibility of robotic MAS.

The system’s small, portable and modular design allows surgeons to use only the required number of arms for each procedure.

The suite of completely wristed instruments and 3D HD vision provide surgeons with a high level of accuracy while performing complicated surgical steps or operating in hard-to-reach areas.
