Swiss CNC machining for complex medical devices
Stone Medical is a Swiss CNC screw machine shop that specialises in medical device manufacturing.
Using multi-axis screw machines, we produce high quantity, high complexity products used throughout the medical industry, including bone screws, bone screw extractors, blood transfusion pump shafts, bone anchors and a multitude of other surgical devices.
Our Swiss CNC screw machines can produce the parts, making them more advanced than conventional lathes. In a Swiss-type screw machine, the headstock contains a component (collet) that clamps the material. The material is then fed through a customised guide bushing, usually made of carbide, loose enough so the matter can slide smoothly through it, but tight enough to keep the material from flexing away from the cutting tool.
The guide bushing is what separates Swiss CNC screw machines from conventional lathes. It allows the appliances to maintain very tight tolerances concerning part diameter, even over long lengths, a +/- .0001 in precision. Swiss CNC screw machines are vital to creating the various categories of parts required by today’s medical device industry.
Stone Medical offers quality, accurate machining of stainless and cold-rolled steels, brass, plastics, aluminium, copper, nickel alloys and precious metals. Our most used material is 303 stainless steel.

Swiss CNC machining differs from traditional cam screw machines, which develop component shapes by creating a form tool of the part feature inside the device.

About Stone Medical
Stone Medical was founded in 2019 by Shawn Gaskin. Founder and owner of Swiss Technologies since 2001, his increased interest in the complexity of medical device manufacturing drove him to create Stone Medical, a 5,000ft² facility.
With a solid foundation provided by Swiss Technologies, which started more than 21 years ago as a traditional Swiss CNC machine shop, we started manufacturing more intricate parts less than 1.25in in diameter, some are used in medical instruments and devices.
Shawn’s desire to expand into the medical device sector of manufacturing lead to Stone’s existence. His valuable insight, ambition to challenge his abilities and furthering his machining capabilities led to Stone Medical.
