Universal driverPI (Physik Instrumente), the Karlsruhe-based specialist for piezoceramic drive and positioning systems, offers ultrasonic piezomotors for different performance classes with its PILine series. Users can integrate these in stages themselves. The operation of ultrasonic piezomotors requires electronics that generate high-frequency AC voltage to excite the piezoelectric actuator to oscillations. The C-872 universal drive electronics is suitable for the entire range of PILine drives. A new type of power transfer prevents heat generation in the electronics and optimally adjusts the operating frequency. The drive thus works with maximum efficiency. It is controlled via an analog interface in the range between +/-10V.

Drive systems that are based on ultrasonic piezomotors offer advantages over classic motor-spindle systems in respect to dynamics as well as velocity, start-stop behaviour and installation space. They are also considered an alternative to magnetic linear motors when, for example, the target position has to be kept stable without the drive being supplied with current or in the case of strong magnetic fields.

Well-known for the high quality of its products, PI has been one of the leading players in the global market for precision positioning technology for many years. PI has been developing and manufacturing standard and OEM products with piezo or motor drives for 40 years now. With four German factories and ten subsidiaries and sales offices abroad, the PI group is represented internationally.
