Johnson & Johnson was the top innovator in cloud in the medical sector in the latest quarter ending May. The company filed 43 related patents in those three months. But this is down from 110 over the same period in 2021.
In the latest quarter, J&J was followed by Becton Dickinson with 30 patent applications, Shimadzu (23 applications), and Abbott Laboratories (20 applications).
Cerner has recently ramped up R&D in cloud. It saw growth of 64.3% in related patent applications in the three months ending May compared to the same period in 2021 - the highest percentage growth out of all companies tracked with more than 10 quarterly patents in the medical sector.
Nevertheless, research and innovation in cloud in the medical sector has declined in the three months ending May.
The most recent figures show that the number of related patent applications in the industry stood at 372 in the three months ending May - down from 528 over the same period in 2021.
Figures for patent grants related to followed a different pattern to filings - growing from 233 in the three months ending May 2021 to 252 in the same period in 2022.
