The top four companies accounted for 5% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that DexCom filed the most environmental sustainability patents within the medical industry in Q4 2023. The company filed 17 environmental sustainability-related patents in the quarter, compared with 22 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Zhejiang University with 1 environmental sustainability patent filing, Sichuan University (1 filing), and Chinese Academy of Sciences (1 filing) in Q4 2023.

Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 35% share of total patent filings

The largest share of environmental sustainability related patent filings in the medical industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 35%, followed by China (17%) and Japan (15%). The share represented by the US was 30% higher than the 4% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
