Medical devices industry M&A deals in October 2020 total $4.51bn globally

Total medical devices industry M&A deals in October 2020 worth $4.51bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 54.2% over the previous month and a drop of 56.2% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $10.31bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $3.75bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $3.75bn.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for medical devices industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in October 2020 was the US with 18 deals, followed by the UK with five and Canada with two.

In 2020, as of the end of October 2020, medical devices M&A deals worth $119.09bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 278.9% year on year.

The top five medical devices industry M&A deals accounted for 92.4% of the overall value during October 2020.

The combined value of the top five medical devices M&A deals stood at $4.17bn, against the overall value of $4.51bn recorded for the month.

The top five medical devices industry deals of October 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Exact Sciences ‘ $2.15bn acquisition of Thrive Earlier Detection

2) The $850m acquisition of Key Surgical by Steris

3) Teleflex ‘s $525m acquisition of Z-Medica

4) The $410m acquisition of Base Genomics by Exact Sciences

5) Infratil ‘s acquisition of Qscan Group for $235.37m.
