
The US medical devices industry saw a drop of 6.2% in overall deal activity during December 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 76 deals worth $8bn were announced in December 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 81 deals.
Venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 41 deals which accounted for 54% of all deals.
In second place was M&A with 30 deals, followed by private equity with five transactions, respectively accounting for 39.5% and 6.6% of overall deal activity in the country’s medical devices industry during the month.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US medical devices industry with total deals worth $6.26bn, while venture financing and private equity deals totalled $896.64m and $838m, respectively.

The top five medical devices industry deals accounted for 78.04% of the overall value during December 2020.
The combined value of the top five medical devices deals stood at $6.24bn, against the overall value of $8bn recorded for the month.

1) Koninklijke Philips’ $2.8bn acquisition of BioTelemetry
2) The $2bn acquisition of AeroCare by AdaptHealth
3) Alphabet, Ontario Teachersâ Pension Plan, Silver Lake Partners and Temasek Holdings (Private)’s $700m private equity deal with Verily Life Sciences
4) The $400m acquisition of ACell by Integra LifeSciences
5) Olympusof the Americas’ acquisition of Veran Medical Technologies for $340m.
