US medical devices industry sees a rise of 35% in cross border deal activity in March 2022

US medical devices industry saw a rise of 35% in overall cross border deal activity during March 2022, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Fresenius Kabi’s $240m acquisition of Ivenix, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 27 cross border deals worth $821.5m were announced in March 2022, compared with the 12-month average of 20 deals.

venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 21 deals, which accounted for 77.8% of all cross border deals.

In second place was M&A with four cross border deals, followed by private equity with two transactions, respectively accounting for 14.8% and 7.4% of overall deal activity in the US technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of cross border deals, venture financing was the leading deal category in the US medical devices industry with total deals worth $563.5m, while M&A and private equity deals totalled $240m and $18m respectively.

The top five medical devices industry cross border deals accounted for 75.2% of the overall value during March 2022.

The combined value of the top five medical devices cross border deals stood at $618m, against the overall value of $821.5m recorded for the month.
