What is Social?

The Social category includes companies and institutions that have undertaken projects that have had a tangible positive impact on the communities where they operate. This can include anything from charity initiatives; sponsorship; community outreach; local business support and education initiatives.

Themes

In light of the COVID pandemic, providing access to diagnostic devices has been a top priority among the more socially responsible companies in the medical devices industry.

Vaccine availability too has also been an issue in low and middle income countries with many companies trying to improve the transportation process of mRNA vaccines to tackle the issue. The efforts of Chinese company Recbio are particularly notable in this regard.

Various programmes have also been established in order to combat health inequity by both public and private entities. The US government in particular has been buying up COVID technologies and making them available to developing countries.
