PerkinElmer has launched its Lamina multilabel slide scanner, a new high throughput imaging system designed to assist research pathologists to more easily study protein expression and the relationships between disease markers in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections.

Lamina multilabel slide scanner was introduced at the 2014 USCAP (United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology) annual meeting in San Deigo, California.

The new imaging system’s advanced digital pathology capabilities support deeper understanding of diseases and development of more effective therapies.

The new Lamina multilabel slide scanner delivers clear, high-resolution images from whole-slides and Tissue Microarrays (TMAs).

With both brightfield and fluorescence modes along with its proprietary autofluorescence reduction technology (ART), the Lamina is the ideal flexible platform for meeting the needs of a larger research pathology lab.

"The Lamina scanner can help research pathologists more effectively interpret their images by automating workflows and providing clearer and faster results."

With the option of selecting ART and cross-talk correction between fluorophores, the imaging system produces exceptional results to enable clearer visualisation of protein expression in FFPE tissues, as well as allows users to obtain more accurate information from histological specimens.

PerkinElmer Diagnostics / Life Sciences and Technology president Jim Corbett said: "The Lamina scanner can help research pathologists more effectively interpret their images by automating workflows and providing clearer and faster results. These advanced digital pathology capabilities can help lead to a better understanding of disease."

In addition, the Lamina scanner produces high-quality, digital, whole-slide images of haematoxylin and eosin, (H&E) immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence-labelled tissue sections and TMAs, which can be stored and shared electronically without degradation.

Lamina extends PerkinElmer’s range of imaging solutions for translational research, including the Vectra and Nuance Multispectral imaging systems, inForm Advanced Image Analysis Software, and biomarker reagent platforms.
