US-based Hologic has launched a new global endometrial ablation (GEA) system NovaSure Advanced in the country, to treat abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).
The new device applies radiofrequency energy to the endometrium and is claimed to gently ablate the lining of the uterus in two minutes or less, leading to decrease in the AUB.
With a diameter of 6mm to ensure patient comfort and easy usage for the physician, the NovaSure Advanced employs a smaller sheath size than the 8mm NovaSure device, for less cervical dilation.
Hologic medical director Edward Evantash said: “The next-generation NovaSure Advanced system promises the same efficacy and safety profile that physicians have trusted for more than 10 years.
“As a part of our ongoing commitment to our customers, we evolved the NovaSure system to provide the enhancements our customers requested to improve physician ease-of-use and ensure an optimal patient experience.”
The NovaSure Advanced consists of an acorn-like shaped cervical seal that creates an increased sealing surface within the cervical canal and offers 13% more working length, when compared to its predecessor.
The system is also equipped with rounded Smooth Access tips for easy insertion and a coloured handle, as a reminder for how the device should be inserted.
The device enables performance of a one-time endometrial ablation procedure either in the doctor’s office or the operating room.
The NovaSure Advanced system launched in Europe, Canada and Australia last year.
Hologic develops, manufactures and supplies diagnostic products, medical imaging systems and surgical products.
