Finland-based molecular diagnostics firm Mobidiag has received CE-IVD marking for a proprietary system called Amplidiag Easy, which enables nucleic acid extraction and PCR setup directly from stool samples.

The device enables quicker sample to result time through an automated solution, which runs directly from stool primary sample tubes to PCR setup, eliminating the requirement for manual setup.

The system is equipped with the Amplidiag Analyzer software, which enables direct transfer of data between the Amplidiag Easy and PCR instruments.

"It allows labs to overcome their main challenges: improve cost-efficiency by reducing hands-on-time and increase sample throughput with automation."

Mobidiag chief executive officer Tuomas Tenkanen said: “Amplidiag Easy sets a new standard for multiplex assays in gastrointestinal infections as it allows labs to overcome their main challenges: improve cost-efficiency by reducing hands-on-time and increase sample throughput with automation.

“In that perspective, we are very pleased to see the adoption of our first platform by the renowned Finnish lab Yhtyneet Medix Laboratoriot for their routine diagnostic screen.”

The new system complements the range of Mobidiag devices designed to perform IVD tests for gastrointestinal infections, by enabling simultaneous screening of relevant gastrointestinal pathogens.

The PCR technology of the devices results in optimal performance, enables high-volume screening use and is cost-effective in mid-sized to large laboratory settings.

Founded in 2000, Mobidiag designs devices for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, which fulfill high-volume and demand testing.

The firm further plans to launch Novodiag platform and associated panels, allowing a fully automated solution and a platform for smaller volumes and labs.
