Royal Philips has introduced its patient-centric Ambient Experience solution for Ion Beam Applications' (IBA) proton therapy gantries.
Phillips' Ambient Experience is an interactive healthcare environment, which uses modern technology and people-centric design to create a comfortable experience for both patients and staffs while ensuring improved workflows and operational efficiency.
The Ambient Experience will be incorporated on IBA's both proton therapy gantries which are the Proteus ONE and Proteus PLUS proton therapy solutions.
It will enable patients to choose their preferred theme, light, sound and video before undergoing treatment reducing their stress.
Builder of the three proton therapy centres Proton Partners International chief medical officer Karol Sikora said: "Cancer treatment can be a frightening experience, so making the environment as pleasant as possible is essential to reduce stress.
“We believe lighting, design and music will help to create a relaxing and soothing experience.
"And it will make our staff more relaxed too, by creating an atmosphere of greater empathy.
"We look forward to operating our first center with Philips Ambient Experience next year in Newport, Wales."
The new development is a part of a collaboration between IBA and Phillips which also see the companies jointly market and sell IBA’s proton therapy solutions and Philips’ imaging and clinical informatics solutions.
