Samsung Electronics America has launched its new ultrasound product for women’s healthcare, WS80A with Elite performance package.

Providing a workflow that can simplify examination of the fetal heart and improve reproducibility, the Samsung WS80A with Elite’s 5D Heart tool is designed to generate nine standard fetal cardiac views simultaneously in a single template.

Samsung Electronics America Health and Medical Equipment group vice-president Doug Ryan said: "The Samsung WS80A with Elite performance package incorporates Samsung’s latest innovations, including an expanded set of 5D workflow applications, to continue our promise of delivering fast, easy and accurate diagnosis for healthcare providers and their patients."

5D Heart is a new application in the system, which is designed to simultaneously display nine standard fetal cardiac views by applying intelligent navigation technology to volume datasets of the fetal heart.

The system also features 5D Central Nervous System (CNS), which displays six measurements from three transverse views generated from a single volume of the fetal brain, and 5D Follicle that identifies and measures multiple ovarian follicles for rapid assessment of follicular size and status during gynaecology examinations.

Six measurements displayed by the 5D CNS include BPD, HC, OFD, Cerebellum, Posterior Fossa, and Atria lateral ventricle.

The S-Vue Transducer technology featured in the new system helps to offer broader bandwidth and higher sensitivity.

The company said the convex 3D S-Vue transducer provides higher performance in a smaller, lighter and more comfortable design for imaging sonologists.

US Food and Drug administration (FDA) granted 510(k) clearance for the Samsung WS80A with Elite performance package system, and it is now available in the market.
