Norlase has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CE Mark approval for its ultra-portable ECHO Green Pattern Laser photocoagulator.

Using MEMS technology, the scanning laser photocoagulator is easily installed on any compatible slit-lamp.

It features a full pattern palette including grids, circle, and triple arc along with a µSec mode for tissue-sparing treatment.

The scanning laser also includes a wireless user interface, no external fibre and voice control of patterns and parameters.

Norlase CEO and co-founder Oliver Hvidt said: “The launch of ECHO as the first and only truly portable pattern scanning laser brings a new paradigm to ophthalmologists that treat retina and glaucoma conditions.

“Our goal has been to develop a pattern laser that is accessible to all ophthalmologists, while maintaining our high level of innovation and precision.

“ECHO provides all of this in a smart, highly-intuitive product design enabling surgeons to treat with ease.”

In addition to ECHO, Norlase’s series of portable and affordable laser solutions include a laser photocoagulator LEAF, which is 10 times smaller than existing systems; integrated green laser LION and LIO.

ECHO is claimed to be the world’s first ultra-portable pattern scanning laser.
