Dymax MD® adhesives are specially formulated to cure in seconds upon exposure to LED and/or broad-spectrum light for fast disposable medical device assembly. They are used in a variety of catheter, syringe, respiratory device, in-vitro diagnostic, and single-use plastic component applications. The adhesives are solvent-free and RoHS compliant and many meet USP Class VI and/or ISO 10993 bio-compatibility standards.

Adhesives for catheter assembly

The Dymax CTH Series single-component adhesives feature excellent adhesion, a high degree of flexibility, and fast light cures for consistent, low-stress catheter assembly. CTH products exhibit excellent moisture and humidity resistance and are available with either blue or red fluorescing technology, making in-line inspection easy. Some CTH-series adhesives also meet the unique assembly challenges associated with the newest catheter materials.

MD® 215-CTH-UR-SC

Designed for the bonding and assembly of next-generation catheter designs using Nylon 12 and PEBA, MD® 215-CTH-UR-SC is an LED-curable adhesive that is formulated with Dymax Encompass® technology.

Encompass® technology combines Dymax exclusive See-Cure colour change and Ultra-Red® fluorescing technologies into one product, enabling secure bonds with the added benefits of easy cure confirmation and post-cure bond-line inspection. The adhesive is ideal for a number of catheter applications including bonding the lumen to the balloon or hub, marker band assembly, and manifold bond joints.

In the uncured state, 215-CTH-UR-SC  is blue in colour for easy verification of material placement onto substrates.  As the product cures with sufficient exposure to light energy, the blue colour transitions to colourless, providing obvious visual confirmation that the adhesive is fully cured and the bond site secure.

215-CTH-UR-SC also fluoresces bright red under low-intensity black light (365 nm), contrasting extremely well on plastics that naturally fluoresce blue in color (like PVC).  This allows manufacturers to incorporate automated or manual quality inspection to verify complete and accurate placement of the adhesive after cure.

MD® 250-CTH

Designed with flexible curing options, MD® 250-CTH epoxy uses light only, heat only, or a combination of the two for rapid assembly of medical devices.

This new cationic epoxy adhesive is formulated for manufacturers that require extremely low shrinkage for lens alignment and cementing of endoscope/microscope lenses, as well as for the positioning of camera/light modules within endoscope assemblies. The semi-opaque off-white colour of the material provides some light-blocking functionality for use around lighted camera components. The product’s high modulus and durometer offer better stiffness and resistance to deformation that may interfere with positioning.

250-CTH is fully curable with broad-spectrum UV/Visible light at 365 nm, 385 nm, or 405 nm, and/or with heat at 80-85°C to enable low-temperature heat-cure in 20-35 minutes, compared to standard acrylated urethane heat-cure for 60 minutes at 110°C. The same cured physical properties are achievable when using light-cure, light, and heat, or only heat. The heat-only curing functionality of this product is ideal for ensuring complete cure in true dark-shadow areas.

The epoxy has high bond strength to a variety of substrates including plastics, FR-4, and glass. The material also features lower water absorption for improved performance in accelerated ageing and real-time storage conditions in high-heat, humid environments

Dymax MD® 1406-M: LED-Optimized Medical Adhesive for Plastics and Metals

Many Dymax 1000-series adhesives are ISO 10993 approved. They are ideal for bonding a wide variety of substrates found in reservoirs and housings, respiratory devices, needles and syringes, transducers, tube sets and fittings, wearable devices and other medical disposables.

Dymax MD® 1406-M needle bonding adhesive cures using LED light at either 385 or 406 nm wavelength light for fast bonding of substrates typically used in needle/syringe assemblies and other medical devices. This product fluoresces blue for in-line inspection of the bond line under low-intensity black light (365 nm). Bondable substrates include stainless steel, PP, PE, ABS, PC, PEI, PETG, PMMA, and PS, as well as PVC. 1406-M needle bonding adhesive resists yellowing, has superior water resistance, and low viscosity for improved wetting. 1406-M also meets ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity approval.

MD®1406-M needle bonding adhesive is in full compliance with the RoHS2 directives 2015/863/EU.
