The Vantage Orian 1.5 Tesla (1.5T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is a wide-bore magnetic resonance diagnostic device developed by Canon Medical.

The device is designed to produce cross-sectional transaxial, coronal, sagittal and oblique images of the head or body, as well as enhanced imaging without contrast such as magnetic resonance angiograms (MRA).

The MRI system received 510(k) certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical use in November 2018.

Vantage Orian 1.5 Tesla MRI system design and features

The Vantage Orian 1.5T has a slim and compact design featuring a 1.4m-long light-weight magnet that weighs 3.8t.

The system includes Saturn-gradient technology for high-resolution imaging capability and offers a maximum gradient amplitude of 34mT/m or 45mT/m, combined with a maximum slew rate of 155T/m/s or 200T/m/s to obtain improved image quality.

The system has a rise time ranging from 0.220ms to 0.225ms.

The PURERF Rx technology used in the system offers adaptive noise cancellation and increases the signal-to-noise ratio by up to 38%, further improving image quality. It includes a 71cm-wide bore patient aperture and an MR Theatre for a virtual immersive experience.

“The quick scanning speeds of the MRI system are enhanced with a Fast 3D mode.”

The system also features Canon’s Pianissimo and Pianissimo Zen technology to reduce scan noise, which is intended to make the MRI environment relaxing and comfortable for patients. The gradient coil and the whole body coil design of the system render a maximum field view of 55cm x 55cm x 50cm.

The MRI includes an optional detachable and dockable table, which allows patients to be handled easily. The digital gantry interface displays patient and coil information, allowing clinicians to have the full set-up without stepping away from the patient.

Vantage Orian 1.5T MRI system software details

The MRI system comes with a range of software enhancements for decreasing scan time and improving productivity. The Multiband SPEEDER helps clinicians decrease the diffusion-weighted imaging acquisition times.

The k-t SPEEDER (up to eight times accelerated) provides perfusion imaging at high frame rates, allowing patients to breathe freely.

The MRI system’s quick scanning speeds are enhanced with a Fast 3D mode. The new Rapid Scan and EasyTech technology is designed to minimise scan time and improves workflow.

The EasyTech technology allows automatic scan planning with alignment and positioning for examining the spinal cord, heart and nerves. The WFS Dixon (FSE2D) captures four contrasts in one scan and allows uniform suppression of fat and homogeneity in difficult-to-shim areas.

Quick Star and two-dimensional (2D) real-time motion correction are other enhancements of the MRI system, intended to reduce inaccuracy and other imaging issues due to body movements.

Vantage Orian 1.5T MRI system benefits

The Vantage Orian 1.5T MRI system is designed to improve productivity and reduce running costs with its low-power consumption feature.

The standard scan planning tool, ForeSee View, allows radiographers to plan for accurate image capturing procedures. This feature will be useful for imaging anatomies of the organs and areas that are more difficult to plan such as the heart, pancreas and joints.
