Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur researchers have developed a portable rapid diagnostic device to detect Covid-19. It uses extracted RNA from saliva samples to test for the virus and is expected to make testing for Covid-19 affordable for the under-served communities, as it can be carried out in a low-cost portable enclosure. The university has stated that it has not produced false results and offers accuracy and sensitivity comparable to standard RT-PCR tests.
