A CLIA certified laboratory in the US, World Wide Clinical Labz, and Baebies have collaborated to provide ultra-rapid real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing for Covid-19. As against traditional RT-PCR test results that are reported after a minimum of 24 hours, FINDER 1.5 testing platform of Baebies is claimed to deliver results with an on-cartridge analysis time of under 17 minutes. It also can potentially identify the Delta and Omicron variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
With a rise in cases of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to amend guidelines to incorporate a negative Covid-19 test along with its five-day quarantine for asymptomatic patients. A recent guideline cut down the isolation duration for asymptomatic individuals with Covid-19 from ten days to five days, followed by wearing masks in the public for the next five days. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr Anthony Fauci said that the CDC is now considering inclusion of the negative test as part of its guidance.
