Health Canada has approved the emergency request of Dr. John Muscedere of Kingston General Hospital to start using N8 Medical’s CeraShield endotracheal tubes in Covid-19 patients who are mechanically ventilated. The tube features a patented anti-fouling coating designed to stop the fatal bacterial infections that are reported to occur in patients who are ventilated and have respiratory viral infections. In conventional endotracheal tubes, pathogenic bacteria cultivate on the tube surfaces and form a biofilm made of slime-like aggregations of pathogenic cells.

Cassia Networks has announced that China’s Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (SPHCC) has started the use of Cassia’s gateways and VivaLNK’s medical wearable sensors to limit the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Cassia’s gateways and IoT Access Controller, in combination with VivaLNK’s body temperature sensors, are expected to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the hospital by limiting patient-to-patient contact and contact between patients and medical staff. Siemens Healthineers has released its molecular Fast Track Diagnostics (FTD) SARS-CoV-2 Assay test kit, which can be used to support the diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that leads to Covid-19. The test kits are being distributed for research use only (RUO) in the European Union. This is expected to increase the test’s availability while Siemens Healthineers continues its efforts to achieve the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Assessment and Listing (EUAL) for clinical use.

Switzerland-based ForaCare Suisse has launched its FORA Autonomous Temperature Measuring Station, which can provide “accurate and precise” automatic temperature readings, according to the company. ForaCare Suisse said the system does not need any human operation and will help healthcare workers overcome the challenge of checking patients’ temperature while implementing social distancing.
