A new clinical support tool to help hospitals optimise and scale acute respiratory care for Covid-19 patients has launched in Ireland.

Assessment of Covid-19 Risk of Respiratory Deterioration (ACORRD) defines a novel measure of patient status called the COVID Critical Care Index (CCCI) to help determine the best course of treatment. This is based on the mode of oxygen recovery and key patient vitals including respiratory rate and oxygen saturation levels.

The assessments are repeated on an ongoing basis, allowing ACORRD to visualise trends, track disease progression, identify patient deterioration early and provide timely advice to care teams on appropriate clinical considerations.

The system, which is CE marked as a class I medical device, has gone from concept to deployment in 10 days.
