US-based medical and surgical products designer Olympus has launched Diego Elite Multidebrider, a new tool designed to deliver optimal tissue dissection with built-in hemostasis and help speed-up minimally invasive sinus surgeries.
The Diego Elite Multidebrider surgical tool can be used in polypectomy, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and a number of laryngeal surgeries, among other procedures.
It is reportedly the only ENT system that offers monopolar and bipolar energy blades for hemostasis as well as traditional standard shaver blades, reducing the need for other instruments.
The Olympus Diego Elite Multidebrider dramatically reduces the surgery times compared with those performed using traditional blades.
Diego Elite improves coagulation performance and accelerate further the procedure times, by delivering 27% faster tissue removal than previous models.
In addition, the devices with bipolar energy have reported a reduced bleeding and expedite operating times by as much as 12%, as the average procedure time during the study dropped from 101.4 minutes to 88.9 minutes.
University of Arizona professor and interim chair for department of surgery Dr Alexander Chiu said: “The Olympus Diego Elite Multidebrider is ideal for all types of sinus and endoscopic skull base surgery. Its versatility enables more efficient and safer procedures, reducing the need for instrument exchanges and allowing me to get to the source of bleeding instantly.”
The features such as increased quality of care, decreased costs (a 12% quicker procedure time) and enhanced patient satisfaction will cater to the requirements of Healthcare Reform.
Olympus Corporation of the Americas president of the medical systems group Luke Calcraft said: “With reduced procedure times and the potential to decrease pain and shorten healing periods, innovations like the Olympus Diego Elite Multidebrider allow us to further our commitment to providing premier care, while supporting our customers achieve the clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness required under accountable care.”
