UK artificial intelligence (AI) company Sensyne Health has launched the BPm-Health blood pressure monitor, which will enable pregnant women to monitor their blood pressure remotely.

This device has been designed in response to UK government guidelines for all pregnant women to stringently follow social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 outbreak. It will be offered free to the NHS for one year to support hospital maternity departments during the pandemic.

A 3,000-participant trial involving 15 NHS Trusts was conducted to demonstrate the efficacy of the product.

Sensyne chief medical officer Dr Lucy Mackillop said: “This technology adds an additional tool for women’s heath, helping the NHS remotely manage pregnant women, maintain existing planned clinic appointments and provide the right care both during the Covid-19 pandemic, and long after it.”
