Virginia Tech chemical engineering professor William Ducker has developed a surface coating that deactivates the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19.
When the coating is painted on glass or stainless steel, the amount of virus is reduced by 99.9% in one hour, compared to an uncoated sample. The coating does not peel off, even after being slashed with a razor blade, and retains its ability to inactivate the virus even after multiple rounds of exposure. It still works even after being submerged in water for a week.

Ducker said: “Everybody is worried about touching objects that may have the coronavirus. [The surface coating] would help people to relax a little bit.”
