Remedi Pharmacy Solutions is teaming up with iEthico to use a medicine procurement tool aimed at alleviating supply issues.

UK-based iEthico connects pharmacists with medicine suppliers to save time and lower costs. The technology streamlines the sourcing process and can also deliver insights about likelihood of drug shortages by sending notifications around reported shortages. In case of shortages, the digital platform can suggest sourcing alternatives.

AI-powered technology is pertinent amongst current trends around drug supply chains. By indicating potential areas that might lead to problems with drug availability, pharmacies aim to become more resilient against unstable supply chains.

In a 2019 statement, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee said it was concerned about the impact that supply problems were having on patients. The Covid-19 pandemic worsened availability further – a 2022 survey by the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union found that 100% of responding countries experienced medicine shortages.

Remedi, an automated dispensing pharmacy that offers NHS prescription service using an integration of several Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR) with its software, will use the technology to streamline its medicine procurement processes, leaving time to focus on patient care.

“One of the biggest issues with community pharmacy at present is continuity of drug supply. Since Remedi has started working with iEthico, we have seen a significant reduction in supply issues which has allowed us to focus on serving our patients rather than chasing drug availability,” said Kenny Black, CEO, Remedi Pharmacy Solutions.

“Our platform will benefit patients, hospital pharmacy, procurement professionals and wholesalers by delivering a transparent, convenient, and fully regulated platform for the purchase of medicines. Our ambition is to help overcome medicine shortages created by the inequity of distribution in the medicines supply chain,” added iEthico CEO Debra Ainge.
