The Finesse Forceps feature a large grasping platform and texturised tip surface to ensure easy grasp and internal limited membrane (ILM) peeling, while mitigating trauma to the retina in the process.

“The surgical tool has been designed as a single-use vitreoretinal microinstrument for posterior segment ophthalmic surgery. It comes in 23, 25+ and 27+ gauge sizes.”

In addition, the forceps offers a 59% larger platform in a 27 gauge, for reducing the closing angle and increasing the grasping edge length.

Alcon US Surgical vice-president and general manager Jim Di Filippo said: “At Alcon, we are continuously innovating to enhance the tools retina surgeons depend on every day, and the new Finesse Sharkskin ILM Forceps are another example of how we are taking valuable feedback from practising surgeons to engineer cutting-edge solutions.

“This advancement expands Alcon’s robust line of vitreoretinal surgical technologies, showcasing our continued commitment to helping retina specialists deliver optimal surgical outcomes for their patients.”

Alcon has also introduced another new vitreoretinal surgery solution called Ngenuity 3D Visualisation System with Datafusion.

The system is designed to provide 3D visualisation of the back of the eye with more depth and detail, compared to standard microscopes, during surgical procedures.

Inclusion of the Datafusion software enables the combination of the Ngenuity system with a separate technology platform for vitreoretinal surgery called ConstellatioN Vision System.

Using these integrated systems, surgeons will be able to monitor important data parameters such as intraocular and infusion pressure, flow rates, and laser power, in real-time and on a single screen.
