Intuitive has secured CE mark approval for the use of its da Vinci SP [Single Port] surgical system in transvaginal gynaecological procedures.
The announcement extends the system’s applications in Europe, where it is already authorised for breast, endoscopic abdominopelvic, thoracoscopic, transanal colorectal, and transoral otolaryngology surgeries.

The approval allows the da Vinci SP system to be utilised in a broader range of women’s health procedures across European countries.
Intuitive Europe commercial president Dirk Barten said: “Building on the strong adoption of da Vinci SP in women’s health, this approval is a meaningful step forward, not just as a regulatory milestone, but because it expands access to less invasive options for women across Europe and opens the door to potentially better recovery experiences and outcomes.”
The system enables surgeons to carry out operations via a single incision or natural orifice. It features up to three multi-jointed instruments and an articulating 3DHD endoscope, all controllable through one entry point.
This design facilitates access to complex anatomical areas while limiting disruption to surrounding tissue.
Intuitive Europe vice-president, medical affairs and medical officer Tilman Schlick said: “Transvaginal procedures expand the natural orifice surgery portfolio of the da Vinci SP system, which to this day includes successful transoral and transanal procedures.
“These less invasive, scarless surgery approaches have the potential to shorten recovery times and enhance patients’ experience as they return to their daily lives.

The system also holds approvals for various procedures in Japan, Korea, and the US.
Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, US, Intuitive has its European base in Aubonne, Switzerland.
