The global medical industry noticed a 1.7% rise in IT hiring activity in April 2021 over the previous month, led by Danaher’s 16.23% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The medical industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.32% when compared with March 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 9.46% share of the global medical industry’s hiring activity in April 2021, up 0.32% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2021 were 2.84% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 4.99% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive medical IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 61.31% emerged as the top IT occupation in the medical hiring activity in April 2021, an 8.66% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 9.18% in April 2021, down 22.18% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 9.09% share in April 2021, decline of 21.12% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.46% share in April 2021 and rise of 9.43% over March 2021.

Top five medical companies by recruitment activity in April 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 3.18% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global medical industry during April 2021 over March 2021.

Danaher posted 707 IT jobs in April 2021 and registered a drop of 2.75% over the previous month, followed by Sonova with 358 jobs and a 19.19% decline. Demant with 230 IT jobs and Biotronik SEKG with 170 jobs, recorded a 46.5% an increase and a 1.19% growth, respectively, while Becton Dickinson and recorded a 13.53% drop with 147 job postings during April 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in medical industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global medical IT hiring activity in April 2021 with a 51.64% share, which marked a 3.1% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 32.19%, registering a 21.01% month-on-month decline.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 13.13% share and a 14.24% decline over March 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.23% and a month-on-month growth of 44.78%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.8%, registering a 2.78% drop over the previous month.
