The PREVENA Therapy covers and protects incisions from being contaminated externally, while negative pressure flushes out fluid and infectious material from the site.

"The PREVENA PLUS Incision Management System provides an important tool for clinicians to provide negative pressure therapy to these more complex incisions."

The PREVENA PLUS Incision Management System has been designed to manage surgical incisions that continue to drain following sutured or stapled closure.

Clinicians can use the system with its customisable dressing to manage linear, non-linear, and intersecting incisions up to 90cm in length.

It then leads to the application of the PREVENA Therapy following a series of procedures such as laparotomy, panniculectomy, spinal fusion, revision hip and knee arthroplasty and lower extremity trauma fracture.

The system uses a foam bolster to generate negative pressure at -125mmHg for up to seven days and is based on the patented SENSAT RAC Technology to monitors and control pressure at the incision site.

It features a replaceable 150ml canister to keep exudates away from the incision site.

Anne Arundel Medical Center chief and medical director of plastic surgery Devinder Singh said: “Surgical site infections present a serious and costly challenge during post-operative recovery, with more than eight million people at risk each year in the US alone.

“This risk is increased by factors such as anatomical location or incision length.

“The PREVENA PLUS Incision Management System provides an important tool for clinicians to provide negative pressure therapy to these more complex incisions.”
