ROFIN will present its laser systems and solutions for a whole range of applications in medical device manufacturing at MEDICA 2009, which will be held 18-21 November in Düsseldorf, Germany. On the ACIG booth in hall 13 (booth F55) the company will show the flexible laser welding solution Select and the compact laser marker EasyMark.
Select – laser welding with optimum process validation
The ROFIN Laser Micro group has refined the current version of the welding laser Select. Enhanced joystick operation features and direct integration in the CNC control make the operation even easier and more comfortable. The Select works as an ergonomically optimized
manual welding laser, joystick controlled deposit welder or high-precision CNC system with four axes – seamless and with a continuous, innovative operating concept. With the micro welding option, welding spot diameters smaller than 0.1mm can be achieved.
Reliable process validation is crucial for quality management in medical device production. The Select laser system with its CNC control system meets these requirements by ensuring highly repeatable processing and accuracy. All programs, which contain the welding parameters for the application, are protected against unauthorized changes and modification. Features such as Intelligent Pulse Management™ guarantee excellent pulse stability, even with smallest pulse energies, providing reproducible results without power fluctuation. The integrated FTP server allows saving and administration of all log file data on a central computer via an Ethernet connection. This includes the results of a laser power measurement before and after the welding process.
StarCut Tube with four axes and automatic tube loader
The StarCut Tube 2+2 offers up to four servo-driven axes and can be used to create various cutting geometries – even off-axis cuts – and it allows oval or rectangular tubes to be processed. With these features the StarCut Tube 2+2 opens a variety of application areas way beyond traditional
stent cutting. Whereas stent cutting typically takes minutes other applications are frequently processed within seconds. Therefore, ROFIN offers now an automatic tube loader as an option. The system includes a magazine for up to 50 tubes with a maximum length of 3m. As finished workpieces and oddments can be deposited in separate trays, the StarCut Tube with automatic tube loader is well prepared for several hours of lights-out production.
EasyMark – compact desktop marker
With a footprint of only 60cm x 60cm the EasyMark series is one of the most compact complete marking solutions on the market. Perfect biocompatible markings can be applied on
metal and plastic surfaces in almost no time at all. The laser needs a common, single-phase power supply and does not require external cooling. The Visual LaserMarker software allows marking parameters like standard markings, consecutive numbering, logos, etc. from the PC to be designed and transfered.
