North America extended its dominance for artificial intelligence (AI) hiring among medical industry companies in the three months ending January.

The number of roles in North America made up 58.3 per cent of total AI jobs – up from 53.5 per cent in the same quarter in 2020.

That was followed by Asia-Pacific, which saw a 1.2 year-on-year percentage point change in AI roles.

The figures are compiled by GlobalData, who track the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. Using textual analysis, these job advertisements are then classified thematically.

The fastest growing country was the United States, which saw 50.8 per cent of all AI job adverts in the three months ending January 2020, increasing to 56.6 per cent in the three months ending January last year.

That was followed by India (up 1.1 percentage points), China (up 0.1), and Poland (up -0.1).

Which cities are the biggest hubs for AI workers in the medical industry?

Some 2.7 per cent of all medical industry AI roles were advertised in San Diego (United States) in the three months ending January - more than any other city.

That was followed by London (United Kingdom) with 2.7 per cent, Hyderabad (India) with 2.1 per cent, and Basel (Switzerland) with 1.9 per cent.
